PRIORITIES
As a public school teacher, a mother, and a longtime member of the Bloomington School Board, I’ve spent my career listening to families and working alongside them to solve problems. I believe in a human-centered approach to governance, one that prioritizes people’s dignity and respect.
Affordability
Minnesota families are feeling the heavy strain of the rising cost of living. Everyone deserves a life free from financial stress, which means ensuring access to affordable housing, compassionate healthcare, and fully funded public education that protects our neighborhood schools and access to opportunities. We must also invest in public safety that actively fosters community trust, and protect our environment so future generations inherit a clean planet. People want collaborative leadership that ensures fair treatment and equal opportunities for all, and I am ready to bring that community-first focus to the Capitol. As your senator, I will:
Work hard to ensure that everyone has access to affordable living and healthcare.
Support workforce opportunities and business development to increase economic growth.
Promote programs that help close economic gaps (e.g., affordable housing, energy cost savings, healthcare costs, fair salaries).
Civil rights/Equity
Every person deserves to be treated with respect and dignity, and to have the right to fair treatment and equal opportunities. I am committed to ensuring that everyone feels safe in our community by:
Developing and supporting laws that protect individuals from harmful actions motivated by intolerance and discrimination in every aspect of their lives.
Promoting education that values tolerance, respect, diversity, and cultural understanding for all individuals.
Protecting Civil Rights for all individuals.
Quality Education
Every student deserves to have access to opportunities and high-quality education. I bring experience in education finance, policy, and programming. As an educator and school board member, I recognize the importance of equipping our youth with the skills and knowledge they need to meet the demands of the 21st century.
I will support legislation that:
Provides adequate, fully funded education from early childhood through college.
Eliminates cross-subsidies that negatively affect special education and multilingual language services.
Promotes the expansion of career and technical education opportunities, the development of innovation programs, a student-centered approach, and technology literacy for students and adults.
Supports teacher and staff hiring and retention.
Increase funding for student mental health support by expanding resources, programs, and staff training.
Healthcare
Every person deserves access to adequate, affordable, and compassionate healthcare.
I will work and support legislation that:
Expands access to affordable healthcare coverage options for residents of all ages.
Includes preventive care and lowers the cost of prescription medicines.
Supports a healthcare system that protects the rights and the specific needs of each member of our community, including reproductive healthcare.
Invests in preventative healthcare and treatment programs for mental health and substance use, especially for youth.
Public Safety
Community safety fosters belonging and trust within our neighborhoods. Families and residents who feel safe stay in their communities. Public safety contributes to a healthy and prosperous environment. As your senator, I will:
Identify and address the gaps that drive crime in our community, and I will help develop prevention programs among youth, including support for mental health.
Support gun violence prevention and safe storage actions.
Expand and fund community programs to strengthen the relationship between community members and first responders.
Support funding of police and fire departments and access to adequate training and resources to ensure protection of residents and collaboration with community members.
Environment
Our future generations deserve to inherit a clean and healthy planet. As members of our community, we must address the impact of climate challenges and work to find solutions to protect our environment.
I will advocate and work to support:
Protection of our natural resources, including water protection, in a state with many water resources.
Protection of the Boundary Waters.
Investment in sustainable programs that address the reduction of carbon emissions.
Development of energy-efficient programs.
Strict regulatory rail guards for Data Centers.
