Dear Bloomington and Edina Residents,

My name is Nelly Korman. I am seeking election to the Minnesota Senate District 50, representing Bloomington and Edina.

I have been a proud Bloomington resident for almost 22 years. My husband, who is originally from Bloomington, and I chose to raise our kids in this wonderful community. They are all proud graduates of Bloomington Public Schools.

Before moving to Bloomington, I lived for 4 years just a block from Edina. During this time, I enjoyed participating in activities and opportunities provided by this vibrant community.

I am an educator and lifelong learner, and I believe deeply that high-quality education is the foundation of a strong, healthy, and prosperous society. That belief led me to become engaged in my children's education and eventually run for the Bloomington school board. I have been elected four times, and I am currently serving my 15th year on the board. I also served on the Planning Commission for the City of Bloomington for 5 years and on other city initiatives. Giving back to the community is very important to me.

During my time on the school board, I have focused on academic achievement; innovation and technology; student, family, and community engagement; staff support; and economic stability for our school district.

I believe in service and community building.

I have been an educator for 30 years, and I currently teach at a high school in a neighboring school district. Working closely with students and families allows me to see both the strengths of our communities and the challenges they face across Minnesota.

As chair of the Bloomington Public Schools Board, I led the district through the challenges of the first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, with leadership centered on governance, oversight, and community engagement in a time of crisis.

For eight years, I served as chair of the Bloomington Public Schools Legislative Committee, leading legislative advocacy efforts at the state and federal levels.

I believe strong communities can only thrive with strong support systems. This is why I advocate for affordability, adequate funding for education, access to physical and mental healthcare, safe, secure, and healthy environments, and fair access to opportunities for all.

As your state senator, I will commit to listening, leading with integrity and compassion, and working tirelessly for the residents of Bloomington and Edina, while remaining fiscally responsible.

I hope to earn your trust so that together, we can build a stronger future for District 50 and for Minnesota.
